MOONSHADOW GOLD (1999 - 2016)

Golden Gear - Wacky Miss, by Miswaki | 1999 gelding - (View Pedigree)

Obituary:

Obit from Joann Pepper of Old Friends at Cabin Creek Farm:
With a heavy heart, we sadly announce that Moonshadow Gold, the first thoroughbred to retire with us in 2009, died Wednesday, May 25th, at the farm. He became ill suddenly and passed away peacefully with JoAnn, Mark and several volunteers nearby. Moon was a 17-year-old gelding wth a big heart and a loving nature. He loved being groomed and was very fond of treats when visitors came by. We’ll all miss him terribly and remember him with much love.
History:
Bred by Green Polka Farms in New York, this hardy equine athlete raced for 8 years from 2001 through 2009. Of his 89 races, he won 16 and hit the board an admirable 51 times for a total of $338,774. Competing in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Canada and West Virginia, he got his victories under jockeys A. Cole, Richard Migliore, G. L. Olguin, P. A. Rodriguez, M. Manickram, N. Santagata, W. P. Otero, J. Tipa and A. C. Cortez. The trainers he took to the winner’s circle include Patricia Bosley, Kelly Breen, Scott Fairlie, Michael Lecesse, Ludwig Lamm, Alan Bedard, Bruce Kravets and Jose Martinez at Philadelphia Park, Aqueduct, Woodbine, Finger Lakes, Penn National and Charlestown. The resilience and heart he showed competing—and succeeding—for a full, two-year-old to ten-year-old round of campaigns is now being applauded in terms Moonshadow Gold can appreciate, a retirement in dignity and comfort, and attention from his friends, old and new, at Old Friends at Cabin Creek, New York.
