Vaguely Noble–Klepto by No Robbery - ch, m
Trained by Charles Whittingham
Starts 30; Wins 12

History: Similar to her half brother Criminal Type, the great race mare Estrapade grew stronger with age. As a juvenile, she was sent to France, where she came first in three of nine starts, including France’s La Coupe De Maisons Laffitte. But back in the U.S. by the end of her 4-year-old season, she began racking up stakes wins, culminating with her renown win against the boys in the 1986 Grade 1 Arlington Million–she is the first distaffer ever to take that race. Proving it was no fluke, two months later she bested males again in the Oak Tree Invitational and later that year she became 1986’s Eclipse-Award winning Champion Female Turf Horse.

Michael Paulson, whose father, Allen, owned and raced Estrapade, donated the great mare to Old Friends in 2005. Sadly, the one-time champion suffered a fatal heart attack just days before arriving at the farm.
