On January 20th, at Old Friends Day at Santa Anita, we'll be having a silent auction of the following items: 

1)  Tiznow “Moneigh”:   A 23’ x19’ framed “Moneigh” from Tiznow.  The “Moneigh” is double matted and has a wide variety of colors to go with any interior.  Tiznow has graciously included a swatch of his mane.

 

2)  Special Ring “Moneigh::   Not to be outdone by Tiznow, Special Ring has also provided a “Moneigh" every bit as special.

 

3)  The Kentucky Derby “Run for the Roses”:  A collector’s copy of this wonderful coffee table book, filled with information about the “Run for the Roses”, is signed by some of the world’s most famous racing celebrities:  Bob Baffert, Angel Cordero Jr., Pat Day, H.A. “Jimmy” Jones, D. Wayne Lukas, Bill Shoemaker, Penny Tweedy Chenery and Nicholas P. Zito.

 

4)  Seabiscuit Package:  This package consists of a mini poster from the movie “Seabiscuit”; a copy of the book “Seabiscuit; An American Legend” signed by Laura Hillenbrand; a reproduction of the win picture of Seabiscuit’s victory over War Admiral and movie props - copy of the Lexington Herald’s front page announcing this famous victory, a Pimlico sign, program and a Daily Racing Form.

 

5)  Barbaro/Secretariat Print:  This 28 ½” x 24” beautifully framed print “Memories of Greatness” is signed by Secretariat’s owner Penny Chenery, and Barbaro’s owners Roy Jackson and Gretchen Jackson.  This print is a wonderful tribute celebrating these spectacular champions.

 

6)  Bobble Head Dolls:  Everybody loves a bobble head doll!  Now you can have the opportunity to own your favorite racing characters. The dolls are: Affirmed, Funny Cide, Spectacular Bid, Secretariat, Smarty Jones, Nick Zito and Julie Krone.

 

7)  PEB print of Estrapade:  This print of the great race mare Estrapade, the only female to win the Arlington Million, is signed by artist Pierre Bellocq. The pint measures 20”x16” and would enhance anyone’s collection.

 

8)  PEB print of Ferdinand:  This tribute to Ferdinand, the inspiration for Old Friends, is signed by artist Pierre Bellocq measures 16”x20”. The 1986 Kentucky Derby winner and 1987 Horse of the Year never will be forgotten.

 

9)  Kudos Halter:  This classic leather halter has been worn by Kudos at Old Friends Farm.  Supported by his owners, Mr & Mrs Jerry Moss, Kudos leads the pack of geldings.  He still runs like the wind. 

 

10)  Bonnie’s Poker Halter:  Bonnie’s Poker has contributed her classic leather halter with her brass nameplate and a brass plate of Old Friends.  Bonnie is best known as the dam of Silver Charm, 1977 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner.    

 

11)  War Emblem’s shoe and commemorative bat:  This horseshoe worn by Kentucky Derby winner War Emblem is mounted on a handsome wood plaque with a brass plate.  In addition, the bidder will receive a limited edition (7) commemorative WAR EMBLEM baseball bat donated by Louisville Slugger.

 

12)  “A Thousand Colors”:  This colorful print of the Churchill Downs mural created by Pierre Bellocq includes all of the Kentucky Derby’s winners.  The original dominates the Clubhouse at Churchill Downs.

 

13)  John Henry print:  John Henry, one of racings all time greats is immortalized in print signed by jockey Chris McCarron.  Proceeds to benefit the John Henry Memorial Fund. 

 

14)  Brother Derek horse shoe:  A shoe from 2006 Santa Anita Derby winner Brother Derek.  The horse shoe is beautifully mounted on a wood plaque.

 

15)  Old Friends Weekend Package:   A two night stay at the Old Friends Bed & Breakfast, Box at Keeneland, dinner at the Black Tulip in Midway, Kentucky.  Call 502-863-1775 for date availability.
