Bred in Kentucky by Liberty Farm LLC and Darley, Versailles Road broke his maiden on the Keeneland Polytrack at four, going 6.5 furlongs for owner PEG Racing LLC and trained by Ian Wilkes. That summer he won at a mile on the turf at Arlington in a $40K claiming race. Though thereafter winless for more than a year, the son of Street Cry regularly finished in the first three in mid-level allowances on the turf at Saratoga, Gulfstream, and Churchill Downs and on both Keeneland courses. He stretched out to prove a consistent earner at two turns. At five a $52K allowance win at Keeneland was followed by game near-wins at Churchill and Gulfstream. So good were his performances that he started in a graded stakes race. If outclassed there, Versailles Road continued to earn handsomely in middle-purse races. Claimed at Churchill at six, he raced from Ian Wilkes’ barn once more, then from David Jacobson’s barn for Drawing Away Stable. Versailles Road wound down his race career in at the end of his six year old season with $165,754 in 24 starts with 3 firsts, 5 seconds and 4 thirds to his credit. When it was time to step down, Drawing Away Stable and David Jacobson secured him a home at Old Friends.
