A hard working claimer, Northern Stone, “Rocky,” as he’s known to his friends, competed in four campaigns from 1994 through 1998. He won at Ellis Park, Kentucky as a three year old, but did not follow up with further successes that year. By the time he was four he was running for small tags, achieving one victory that year at Hoosier Park in Indiana. At five he won twice more, at Cincinnati’s River Downs and again at Hoosier. By then he’d had to drop to bottom level to be competitive, but in one way he remained fortunate. He stayed with responsible owner-trainer team Kathy and John Day. He earned $54,527 over the years with his 4 firsts, 4 seconds and 7 thirds in 48 starts, and when his work was done his owners enabled the retirement his efforts merited. Rocky now spends sociable days with one of Old Friends’ gelding herds getting the care—and the carrots—he’s earned.  The Day's still support and visit their old friend.
