In three seasons on the track, Cajun Beat proved himself a consistent winner. The gelded son of Grand Slam broke his maiden at Calder in only his second start as a 2-year-old. Early in his three-year-old-year he captured his first stakes, winning the Hallendale Beach Stakes at Gulfstream, and followed that with his first graded win in the GR2 Kentucky Cup Sprint at Turfway.

It was all a warmup for the big show, however.  The following month Cajun Beat entered the starting gate for the 2003 Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita at odds of nearly 23-1, but just over a minute later he put himself, trainer Steve Margolis and jockey Cornelio Velasquez in the limelight by cruising to a 2¼ length victory.

The following year Cajun Beat earned two more graded wins before retiring in 2005 with owner Padua Stables.

In 2016, Padua donated Cajun Beat (and his best bud Padua’s Pride) to Old Friends.
