Honoring Ferdinand - 1986 Kentucky Derby Winner
Old Friends, in partnership with the Japan Racing Association and various overseas breeding farms, have transformed the awful death of 1986 Derby winner, Ferdinand, into a beneficial relationship insuring that his demise was not in vain. Thanks to Madeleine Pickens, Emmanuel DeSeroux, our many supporters and the cooperation and support of the Japanse horse racing establishment, we have repatriated five horses from Japan: Creator, Sunshine Forever, Fraise, Ogygian and Wallenda. And we're working on bringing more back to America once their breeding careers are over.
The Blood-Horse 's Lenny Shulman later noted: “…his death may yet bring benefits to those that follow him.”
