Memorial Day 2010

This Memorial Day, Old Friends will pay tribute to some very special Thoroughbred Champions.

On May 31st Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement facility in Georgetown, KY, will have a commemorative service for eight retirees that have passed away in the last year.

Honored will be Calder Hall of Famer Flying Pigeon, multiple GR1 winner Ruhlmann, Argentine bred Gold Spring, J. J. Gittes’ Invigorate, Old Friends foundation mare Narrow Escape, Arkansas Derby winner Proper Reality, GRIII winner Stage Colony, and Beulah Park hero AppyGoLucky.

Keeneland bugler Bucky Sallee will perform the final “Call to Post”.

“It’s an honor to pay tribute to these great athletes,” said Old Friends founder and President Michael Blowen. “Old Friends is an assisted living facility and we specialize in elder care. The only down side of the job is when they die. But we try to treat them with the dignity they deserve both in life and in death.”

Friends and fans are to attend the services, which will begin at 2 p.m. on Monday the 31st at Old Friends’ Dream Chase Farm at 1841 Paynes Depot Road in Georgetown. Videos of career highlights will be shown and food and refreshments will be served.
