Eternal Orage, or "Renegade," as he seems to prefer being called, is a stakes winner who raced 65 times.  He joined Old Friends in November 2009.

Obit:  Eternal Orage, a stakes-placed stallion owned and campaigned by Joe DiRico of Massachusetts, has died

The 25-year old horse had been pensioned at Old Friends, the Thoroughbred retirement center in Georgetown, KY since 2006.  Pending the official results of a necropsy, it appears that Eternal Orage passed away from a heart attack.

Michael Blowen, president and founder of Old Friends made the announcement this morning.

Eternal Orage  (Eternal Prince – French Bracelet by L’Aiglon) broke his maiden as a 3-year-old at Laurel Park. He finished his career in 1994 after winning 17 of 65 starts and capturing earnings of $336, 116. His wins include the Sam McCracken Memorial Handicap at Rockingham Park and the Old ironsides Handicap at Suffolk Downs in both 1992 and 1994.

In 1993 he placed 3rd in the GR3 New Hampshire Sweepstakes.

Eternal Orage stood most of his stallion career at Elberton Hill Farm, Darlington, Md.

“Eternal Orage was a personal favorite,” said Blowen. “I saw him win several races in New England, including the Sam McCracken Memorial, a handicap named for the late Boston Globe turf writer and one of my dearest friends,”

Blowen also noted that, Joe DiRico, his owner had been to Georgetown to see Eternal Orage just a few months ago. The horse was bred by DiRico's father, Albert.

"Eternal Orage kept his own counsel," added Blowen "He displayed a quiet confidence and never caused any trouble.

“The son of Eternal Prince certainly lived up to his sire's name. While often overshadowed by his neighbors–Tinners Way and Williamstown–there was nothing not to like about him."
