History: The last homebred to race under the celebrated red and blue silks of Calumet Farm, Criminal Type was a latecomer to success, earning his greatest accolades as a 5-year-old. In that championship season the son of Alydar defeated such rivals as Easy Goer, Sunday Silence, and Hall of Fame nominee Housebuster, capturing seven out of 11 starts, six of them stakes. The impressive sweep helped Criminal Type secure 1990 Horse of the Year honors.

In 2005, the wonderful stallion was graciously donated to Old Friends by The Thoroughbred Breeders Club Co. of Japan, where he stood since 1992. However, shortly before he was to journey he died suddenly of a gastric rupture. Old Friends pays tribute to the former champion with a memorial marker on our farm.
