Update 11/10/10

From Michael…
Great horses…great people…great food…great weather…That sums up our post-Breeders’ Cup party at Old Friends. Thanks to all of our new and old friends that attended and bid on all of our generously donated items. Tommy Walters’ Furlongs Catering did a masterful job. Artists’ Fred Krakowiak, Melvin and Vivian Rowe of Pottery Rowe, Nick Martinez, Jim Riesenberger, Peb, Elaine Winter and Judy Jones all contributed amazing works. We were sorry the jockeys weren’t able to attend, they assumed they wouldn’t be working the day after Breeders’ Cup like the day after Derby. Also, it was great to see so many members of the Bluegrass Stallions, our local professional basketball team, come by for awhile and, of course, Silver Charm showed off for the crowd. Roger BonDurant did a great job with the music. A very special thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers who work very hard to keep Old Friends running every single day.
Team Moss, caretakers of the extraordinary Zenyatta, continue their support. A Zenyatta fan came by their barn and wanted to make a donation to Zenyatta’s favorite charity and, without missing a beat, Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs said, “Zenyatta’s favorite charity is Old
Friends.” So, we are now blessed by the Queen. It doesn’t get much better.
I’m sorry to report that Old Friends beloved canine pal, Duncan, was humanely euthanized this week. We miss him very much and we’re going to make provisions for his burial at Old Friends. Our thoughts are with his favorite person of all time, Janet, as she struggles with the loss of her irreplaceable friend..Rest in peace, Duncan.
